day 3... (soon going to stop numbering the days)
day of observation.. just exploring the old colonial sector of quito. watching the people walk by.
there are some children selling fruit and shoe polishing.. some of them make me feel sad, they are the same age as my niece & nephew.
there are about four differnt types of cops. so it seems.. some look like nazis with the long boots and hats.. some with more modern style bullet broof vests etc.. and dogs.. all are well kitted out..with battons etc.. the often get the kids to shine their boots.. foto pending
doing some gringo spotting too. some tourists are so ....touristy.. they all wear shorts sandals and short blonde hair. and really obvious day-pack with low alpine label or so ..im starting to dislike the "north face" logo on my top hehe
i even saw some guys who must have been only 18.. and there i was worrying about a 29yr old fogie like me!
baught myself a phone, having trouble firuging out how to use it. lol seems it doesnt make calls to other south american countries ..or even to ecuadorian land lines... what the heck
so just when i was starting to enjoy blathering in spanish to ecuadorians, decided to go to mariscal sucre neighbouhood also known as "gringo-landia" for obvious reaons. full of gringos.
i notice lonely planet has a nack for making things sound a bit better than they really are.. i have been here all day and have not seen any drugs prostitution or muggings whatsoever hehehe (touch wood) ok, i really went because of the wonderful gringo community i read about.
so checked out of my nice hotel in the beautiful colinial sector of quito and into a "real hostel" in the new town.... im sharing a stinky room with 5 people and about 50 pairs of runners & socks and im on the top bunk.... .. any measly dollars i saved by staying in this "great community atmoshpere" kip... i blew it in the over priced restaurant accross the road..
out of here tomorro !
