Lima: Salsa

im having trouble getting away from lima as you may have noticed, but there just so much fun to be had.. i pity those who pass through for one day on their way to discover latin america never realising the belly of the beast is right here. or at least one of its bellies. then i supposed i am a little biased as i always warm towards a place with a good nightlife.

i think to understand a musical style you need to go to the right kind of place to see and hear it in its context. on a trip to the salsa club "Son de Cuba" in miraflores has shown me just how downright cool latin jazz can be. i have learned a few baby steps myself over a couple of lessons with my ever patient teacher paola who herself has a natural talent for it, but i didnt compete with these people who were swinging eachother around the place in a mind boggling sequence of dance routines and making it look so seemless and efforless you could be tricked into thinking theres nothing to it at all! until you try it. i suspect i may never learn this, but i once would have said that about the spanish language so who knows...
