Cuzco to Puno

This morning i took a bus from Cuzco to Puno.
they told me to be there half an hour before the bus leaves.
my bus was scheduled for 8.00 am so i scrambled out of bed at 7.15, bypassed breakfast in order to get to the station in time. when i get there the guy writes up my ticket and says "the bus will leave at 8.45". this is so typical of south america you cannot be anything but amused. i wasnt complaining however because it gave me an excellent opportunity to go and order some of my favourite budget breakfast (arroz a la cubana). rice with a fried egg on top ans some sliced of fried banana around the sides. and a wee cup of mate of course.
when i returned to get the bus the guy now said "the bus is leaving now...at 9"
of course you have to also factor in the time where they leave the us engine running until they get more passangers. we left at 9.20

the journey took 7 hours, they movie they showed was called"big momma". which has to be the worst movie i have seen in a while.. made even worse by the spanish overdubbing which filtered out all of the untranslatable american slang. i was delighted when i noticed they were putting on a second movie only to be dissapointed when te title came up "big momma 2" !

so i entertained myself by taking some fotos.

road blockade for some reason. they removed enough rocks for the bus to squeese through but further up the road they had to stop the bus for about 40 minutes because some of the rocks had apparently damaged the bus.

houses made from mud bricks. very common in the highlands.

isolated village

..also some final photos of Cuzco

Houses in Ireland were made of mud once, 'cept it was oul' grey mud, not nice golden mud like those in the Cuzco highlands. And they didn't make bricks of the mud, they just sort of slapped it all together. I guess the bricks would never have dried anyway with all the rain. Their bus time-keeping isn't too bad really, a bit like here but you've probably forgotten now that you're driving.
