Argentina: Perito Moreno Glacier

unfortunatly my partners-in-crime Paola and Josefa could not come along and had to return to punta arenas to sort some stuff out. i hope i can travel with them again. but for now im back to a group of one.
arrival in argentina was a quick and simple proceedure. it was around a 5 hour drive from puerto natales to calafate.

this sign just inside the argentinian border says "the falklands belong to argentina"

the bus slowed down at one stage to let some baby ostriches cross the road.

a landscape to vast for any camera.

i keep seeing faces in the hills these days! do i need help?

first sight of Perito Moreno glacier.

you can hear cracks and bangs ongoing from inside the glacier as it advances at 2 metres per day. large pieces regularly fall off and create a large wave that rocks the boat.

note how tiny the boats are compared to it.

the town of Calefate in argentina.
5.30pm, 25 degrees.
i am a little relieved to be on normal money again, ie.. paying 5 pesos for a sandwich instead of one thousand five hundred pesos as was the case in chile. a sandwich should never cost one thousand of anything.
though i find the people easy to understand in general, the accent will take some getting used to.
everywhere there is a "y" sound they say "sh". so ..to give an english language example its like if someone said to you "how are shoo?" or "happy new sheer!"

this casino belongs to the current president of argentina (Cristina Fernández de Kirchner)

and this shop sells baileys flavoured icecream

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: WOO HOO, WHAT A RIDE!"
